Real Thai Food
Having lived in Thailand for two years I wanted to find a book that gave authentic recipies. This book not only gives this, but does it with wonderful photography. When you are not using it, the book still makes a beautiful 'coffee table' book
Dawn, a lover of great food., January 20, 1999,
I fell in love with this book even before I went to Thailand
Cooking Thai food is definately for the advanced cook. This book gives such a beautiful representation of the wonderful flavors and regions of Thailand. I love Thai food and many cookbooks don't warrant a buy. Get over the sticker price -- it's well worth it! I have the whole series and this one is my favorite. I enjoyed the cookbook even more after I travelled through Thailand. And don't try to substitute Thai ingedients that are vital to the recipe. (like Italian basil for Thai basil). It's a totally different flavor!

Contains the best Pad Thai recipe we have ever enjoyed!, May 1, 2000
Reviewer: dvons from Seattle
My husband and I love the recipes in this book! We have finally found the perfect Pad Thai recipe in this book after searching for about 5 years.
The price of this book is a little on the steep side but if you consider how much it costs to go out to Thai you can make back the price in 3 meals or less. The price was our deterrent before we purchase this book but now that we have it we can't stop using it. The wonderful photography and glossary are added bonuses.
The food is perfect in spiciness all though I am sure others would suggest adding more chilis. One of our other favorites is the green chili crab dish. I made this for my in-laws and it received rave reviews. Being from Seattle, we especially enjoy all the seafood dishes.
Enjoy this book because it is a feast for they eyes and stomach.

Desert island Thai, June 8, 2000
Reviewer: Greg Alder from Mexico
When I moved to Mexico two years ago, I was forced to accept that it would be impractical to bring my library. So I spent a few hours looking at the volumes on the shelves to select the 20 or so books I felt I absolutely HAD to have with me. One of those books was Thailand The Beautiful Cookbook. Most of the time I open it, it's to find something to satisfy my craving for the sweet, pungent, rich and exotic flavours of Thai food. But other times I've simply lost myself in memories of a beautiful country - memories brought back by the stunningly evocative photographs which fill this book. Thai restaurants here in Mexico seem to be nothing more than a rumour. But Thai ingredients (or serviceable substitutes) are reasonably easy to buy. I have cooked from this book frequently for Mexican friends. Every one of them has been bowled over by flavours packed into the dishes placed in front of them. And if that's the response you want when you cook for friends, then I suggest you buy this book. For me, a Thai food fanatic a long way from Asia, it is essential.

A Breathtaking, Beautiful Pictorial with Brilliant Dishes
I bought this book for my husband because I was traveling a lot, he loved Thai food and he needed to learn to cook. Little did I know what a gorgeous book it would be. My husband, who has lived in Thailand, tells me the recipes are authentic and easy to prepare (if you find fresh ingredients). He found this "cookbook" so yummy that he left me and opened a Thai restaurant in Australia. BUY THIS BOOK. . . BUT KEEP IT FOR YOURSELF!!!!!

No better book on Thai cooking than this!
I travel to Thailand EVERY year and have ached to find a REAL book on authentic Thai cooking. My son is Thai and he also RAVES about this book. In addition to some sophisticated recipes, it also has recipes for some street vendor food that I have not been able to find anywhere. (The recipe for Moo Yang is great.) If you want one comprehensive book on Thai cooking, this is it!

Great variety, great illustrations and easy-to-follow recipe, November 6, 1997
Reviewer: laum@ac.grin.edu from Grinnell, IA
James McNair's South East Asian cook book has a great selection of recipes from countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam among others. The illustrations in the book are beautiful. Recipe's are easy to follow and very helpful. There are sections on the basics of South East Asian cooking, shopping guide for ingredients and useful equivalency tables. Each recipe is also preceded by a synopsis of the background of the dish. I highly recommend the book!

James McNair scores again..., February 10, 2000
Reviewer: A reader from Dunwoody, GA
After I got my wife hooked on Thai food she bought me a cookbook that was loosely translated from Chinese. Didn't work too well. I picked up James McNair's Southeast Asian book and love it. Like all of the other McNair volumes I own, I can start off with an easier recipe and work up to harder ones as my particular skills and confidences increase. You can't go wrong with this or any of McNair's books!

Excellent
Kurt Kahrs has done an excellent job with this cookbook. Not only are the recipes easy to follow but they are also delicious. The book is informative and translates well to those of us who are not familiar with Thai cuisine. I would reccomend it to anyone who loves to cook!
Hugh Stafford <handl@ma.ultranet.com> from England originally, now USA , 31 March, 1999
Who would have thought it
But this book by someone obviously of non-Thai nationality is an excellent guide to this cuisine. The book is clear and packed with great recipes, their authentication proven by the quantity of chilies and garlic used, as well as the wonderful dishes that can be produced. All becomes more understandable when the sleeve cover reveals that he cooked at a Bangkok hotel for many years.

Best thai cookbook that I have used, December 2, 1999
Reviewer: Jim Parent from Orinda
I have used a number of thai cookbooks, but keep coming back to this one. The recipes are well written, and the pictures give the user a good idea of what the final dish should look like. The recipes are a "can't miss".

Narrow focus, limited value, August 6, 2000
Reviewer: A reader from Baltimore, USA
A narrowly focused book with little to add to most run of the mill Thai cookery books. There are better texts on the market and I am afraid that I found this unchallenging and really a waste of money. My advice - if you are a keen Thai cook then look elsewhere.
